Raymond Briggs, the creator of The Snowman, Father Christmas, Fungus the Bogeyman and Ethel and Ernest is the latest recipient of the BookTrust Lifetime Achievement Award. He was awarded the honour at a special ceremony on London’s South Bank on Thursday 9 February by Children’s Laureate Chris Riddell. Riddell is a member of the judging panel together with Nicolette Jones, Cressida Cowell, John Agard, Shami Chakrabarti and BookTrust's CEO Diana Gerald.
Raymond Briggs said ‘It’s lovely to be given an award for all my life achievements. Drawing, telling stories and sharing these adventures is something I’ve always been passionate about. Being awarded the BookTrust Lifetime Achievement Award is an incredible honour and I’m so glad I’ve been able to make such an impression on people.’
Previous recipients include Shirley Hughes and Judith Kerr.
