A comprehensive look at this very sensitive subject. After an introduction which makes the point that 'race' has no scientific background, the authors go on to look at racism in Europe, South Africa, the USA and Australia. 'Factfile', 'Media Watch' and quotation boxes add much-needed life to what is often a plodding text. This 'Global Issues' series has very noble aims in trying to get youngsters to think about world problems but the rather bland, detached style the authors adopt does little to encourage the reader to engage with the text.
