This 89-page gem is yet another superb offering from Paula Fox. Totally devoid of sentimentality, it clenches the emotions like a fist. Characterisation is faultless and Fox's imagery rings with the startling clarity of an unmuffled bell. A book that's a quiet masterpiece - it should be read by all children and adults from 13 upwards.
