The insensitivity of the title deliberately reflects public attitudes to Chip Clewt's appearance - he was horrifically burned in an aircraft crash - and to his outspoken attitudes to game hunting in the local swamp. The resistance of local hunters puts him and his co-worker in danger. When the latter is murdered and Chip is threatened he has to draw on his resources and his only friend, Samantha Sanders, to fight for his beliefs. This is not just a murder novel with a strong dose of political correctness but has a deeply felt concern for the environment. It's a rites of passage story where Chip and Sam must confront their own weaknesses and reservations, and change permanently as a result. An intriguing and entertaining mix which will hold the reader's attention.
