Jack's mother brings a spider home for the weekend which must be kept hidden from dad who is an arachnophobe. Not only does Jimmy the spider escape but Jack's awful cousin Sarah and his health food freak aunt arrive to stay too. This well-paced book just bubbles along. Suspense, humour, a well constructed plot and likeable characters are further enhanced by occasional line drawings. An excellent book for confident lower junior readers from a teacher who wants to be a full-time writer 'when she grows up'.
