Before the Royal Society for the Prevention of Verse comes to take me away, I'll recommend a few more respectable books I'd be willing to be seen reading on a bus, like Mouldy’s Orphan. I love it, but then I'm a right old softy, and this touching (it really is) tale of a Victorian Child's 'adoption' of an orphan is one I'd love to introduce an eight or nine-year-old to.
