Exploring the theme of caring for books and enjoying books, alongside the perennial problem of living with younger siblings, There’s a Monster … is a useful tool with which to encourage discussion with younger children. Although a good story, I am not convinced that this picture book works as a Big Book. The lively illustrations are bright and attractive and bring to life the humour in the story. But why a BIG book? The cartoon bubble text is too small to use as a shared text.
