The Lion Children's Treasury of Classic Verse

This large format anthology for the Christian market contains traditional 'classic' poems. The introduction tells us that it is 'a reminder of the ways poets have shown how important God is in this world'. Although there is a good selection of familiar poems and interesting placing of the poems, the editor's commentary at the top of each double spread is distracting. Some brief lines of explanation or questions might have been helpful, but the preaching tone and insistence on learning lessons from poems is extremely off-putting. Far better turn to the joyful anthology The Sun, Dancing - Christian Verse compiled by Charles Causley.
