I warmed to this rather unusual ghost story as its setting is very much in the mundane everyday world, but with the unknown and mysterious creeping in naturally as it were. Pete and his friends have always been warned off the deserted house, but once they summon up the courage to investigate matters they find out more than they bargained for. The illustrations lend to the general atmosphere and Arrigan's perceptions of children's feelings are well expressed, although at times I wondered if it was Pete or Arrigan who was telling the story.
