Giddy-up! Let's Ride!

Inspired by the nursery rhyme, 'This is the way the lady rides', McDonnell has painted eleven flights - or rather rides - of fancy featuring appropriately attired small children mounted on a variety of horses and other animals. There is a princess, a knight, a drummer, a clown, a raja, even a fairy, each riding their steed against a bold background wash and captioned in large print by 'This is 'the way the ... rides' and noisy accompaniments. In the final spread all the riders are shown at play together.
