I've got to admit to felling a sense of overkill at the awfulness of the Twists. He, whose 'hair sprouted in revolting tufts out of his nostrils and earholes'; she 'who has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year'. Their worm spaghetti, and that Birds' Pie with the birds' legs sticking up out of the crust must make them two of the most odious creations in children's fiction! In the end, they get their just rewards. If you like it, the fun will be contagious; if you don't why not try one or two chapters aloud and get the kids talking about how are you can go in stories. But don't ignore it, because the kids will find it! Blake's pictures are horribly apt.
