How Do You Feel?
Illustrated by Jane Green
It is made clear by a foreword at the beginning of this book and by the activities given at the end that How Do You Feel? is intended as a tool for teaching language skills, to be shared by parent and child. The main character, a little boy, has a busy week during which he runs the gamut of emotions, feeling in turn shy, happy, cross, proud, scraed, brave, sad, lonely, excited and sleepy. A range of faces at the top of each page show him exhibiting each of these feelings. The large print, very black on the page, the simple sentences and the bright, basic illustrations are designed to look like something out of the classroom, and, indeed, there is a Big Book version (0 237 51888 0, £17.99) which will be useful there. Children and parents can share not only the discussion of all the emotions involved but also the beginnings of language skills.
