This is a delightful game of hide-and-seek between words and pictures. Author and artist make full use of the picture book format by exploiting the interplay between visual and oral text magnificently, allowing plenty of room for the reader/viewer to wallow in fear of the awful Mr Beast who lurks in his scary little house at the end of the garden while suspecting that this is really Dad in his shed. Ayto's angular drawings and lush watercolour washes are nicely backed up by good all round design and typography in a production that will have children squirming with delight at bedtime.
