Saint Jenni: Super Hero

Jenni is aiming to be a saint when she grows up, but unlike various characters from children's literature in the Victorian era, there is nothing goody goody at all about her behaviour or adventures. Rather she gets into scrapes and activities that have her parents and other adults pulling their hair out. Telling the truth to the policemen as to why she was trying to steal the church brasses or being knocked unconscious when she was playing at saints with her best friend are just two examples of her misadventures. The book races along, peppered with just the sort of dialogue that primary children use. McCafferty's line illustrations, though few and far between, are just asking for a reader to colour them in! The references or mini bibliographies of some of the saints mentioned throughout the book are a very useful addition to the back of the book. A good read.
