Life is just fun and games for Benjie, whilst the rest of the beaver family spend autumn days beavering away at winter preparations. Avoiding attempts to get him to help, Benjie enjoys playing in and around the river bank. When winter comes, the family are cosy inside their dam, but they realise just how bored they are. Benjie tells of all the adventures he enjoyed whilst they were all busy, and over the long winter months he teaches his family his favourite games. Spring arrives, and Father announces all must set to and help repair damage to their home... but then realises there should be time for a good game together first! The illustrations add much to this story about the value of family play. The colour plaette is cool and spatial, but the facial expressions are warm, and the interaction shown between the beavers is quite endearing.
