This is the last title in the well-loved Big Bear and Little Bear series, for Little Bear is growing up and ready to make a home of his own. Of course, there is a whole gamut of emotions that accompany his venturing into independence - excitement, fun, lots of physical activity (play and hard work), the satisfaction of making a space your very own and then sitting down to enjoy it. And then a certain apprehension: '"Big Bear might be lonely without me," thought Little Bear.' Waddell's text captures all these emotions and more, while Firth's wonderful illustrations complement them and bring them to life exuberantly. We can see exactly what Big Bear and Little Bear are thinking and feeling - it jumps out at us from the simplicity of both words and pictures, delineated with such art. Another lovely title to share and enjoy with young children.
