A delicious tale of friendship, rivalry and jealousy set on 'Harold's' farm, Harold being the resident wiry terrier. His life is pretty near perfect except for his rival, Pud Pud the cat. But when Willow and his sister Lily find an egg that hatches into a duck, they have no time for cuddles for Harold and even his beloved smelly sock is stolen by the dratted duck. It's only after Pud Pud's brainwork that the duck is sent packing and normal rivalry and affection are restored. This longish story is a wonderful read aloud with phrases and images that linger in the mind. Windham's illustrations give further substance to the 'Haroldness' of Harold and poignancy to the animals and their love/hate relationships.
