Buzz Bumble to the Rescue
Illustrated by Jill Newton
This is another picture book on the perennially popular subject of sibling rivalry. This time it’s a bee, Buzz Bumble, who has to learn that he is not in fact the centre of the universe when the new kid on the block (Baby Bumble) turns heads away from his unique talents. Buzz’s nose is further put out of joint when he is asked to look after the ghastly child and this when he was about to show off his aerobatic skills to the great photographer Ansel Antennae. Just as Buzz is wondering if things can possibly get any worse (the puns certainly do), Baby falls into a Venus Flytrap. Buzz of course saves the day and ends up with his picture on the front of the National Bee Graphic magazine. Newton’s brash, spirited acrylic paintings suitably reflect the snappy, in-your-face language. No shrinking violets here. MS
