Small pen friends from faraway lands do not often have the opportunity to meet, but off the plane from Florida steps Ally to visit her pal Nancy. Their friendship immediately blossoms, and they delight in sharing favourites.

The week flies by, and on their final evening they make each other friendship bracelets. Even at the airport they are taken for sisters and Nancy announces, ‘Sisters are together even when they’re apart.’

It would be interesting to read this book to children without showing the pictures… for Ally is in fact, an alligator! It is terrific fun and readers will delight in the two friends’ adventures. The front cover shows clearly the bond between the two, although the illustrator has cleverly humanised Ally just enough to leave a shadow of doubt about her. This is soon blown, as the pictures tell us more about the developing friendship. All the characters carry a beaming smile throughout the book, and the illustrations help to cement our belief in this celebratory friendship. A book to make us laugh out loud! GB
