The beauty of useful objects is shown simply and clearly against snowy white pages in this fine picture book which was first published in 1971. Built round an inventory of the items in the family toolbox, it will have enormous appeal for toddlers and nursery school children. Inspired by a young boy’s fascination with his father’s tools, the text explains clearly how each tool functions. Saw, hammer, drill, clamp, spanner, plane and so on are drawn large and clear with a firm line that somehow makes the tools look as though you could pluck them from the page! The final double spread shows a child watching with intense concentration as his father stands at his work bench and uses a hammer to nail pieces of wood together. Nestled between them is the tool box containing all the things they might need. In short, this is a simply perfect early information book.
