What a great story – I handed this one over to my 13-year-old when it arrived thinking he could review it for me; soon we were fighting over whose turn it was to read the next bit! Fletcher Moon, boy detective, sets off, tongue in his Chandler-esque cheek, to solve various mysteries in his home town. The trail leads him to the local family of ne’er-do-wells via the Barbie-clone girls in his class who turn out to have a surprise or two up their pink sleeves. The tale is somewhat unresolved – either Colfer ran out of steam or there’s more to come. I think we’ll assume the latter. Read it – it’s fun with a few quiet messages about the assumptions we, and our parents, are all guilty of making about others. And all told with that lovely easy Irish style! AG
