This rhyming romp of an a to z, with its high read-aloud factor is refreshingly different: ‘Gg is for grasshopper/Hh is for honey/Ii is for ice cream to eat when it’s sunny’ and ‘Xx can mean kiss’, ‘Yy is for yogurt and yum and yuck too.’ Nick and Sue are there at the turn of every page and the storytelling illustrations are typically bright, bold and patterned. As well as the named items, each page has other objects whose initial letter is the one featured.

In my experience, previous collaborations from this pair have become firm favourites with nursery age children (Nick and Sue have become ‘mummy/daddy’ for one pair of first stage English language learners) and this one seems set to join them as a winner. JB
