Happy Birthday to You, Blue Kangaroo!
This book would be just perfect for a birthday girl, especially if she is five, like Lily and Blue Kangaroo! The adventures of these two endearing characters are well known, and the series is deservedly popular. On the party invitations, Lily has requested that everything should be pink. So on THE day, she wears all her favourite pink clothes, and even puts a pink ribbon around Blue Kangaroo’s neck. We can tell by the illustration that he has reservations about this! In come her friends, bearing pink presents, wearing pink dresses and cuddling pink teddies. As Lily thanks her friends for their pink presents, Blue Kangaroo realises he is the only one who is blue. He sneaks off to try, unsuccessfully, to make himself pink. At last, Lily misses him, and discovers him curled up on her bed. She knows just what to say, to make Blue Kangaroo feel great again. And she even changes into a BLUE outfit, to show how much she loves blue… as well as pink. Chichester Clark’s drawings are instantly recognisable and there is always something to chuckle over on each spread. GB
