‘Every little helps’ trumpets one well-known supermarket chain. George and his Grandpa discover that if it’s packaging (upon the use of which all supermarkets depend) the reverse is true until we world-lings do something about it. Grandpa introduces George to his four Rs – Reduce (use less), Re-use (use again), Repair (use for longer), Recycle (use modified). They hang out together (the washing, that is) instead of tumbledrying, take redundant stuff to the charity shop, patch worn clothing, top up the compost heap, walk, ride their bikes to the can/paper/plastic/bottle bank then buy some local food for lunch. A good morning’s work and an easy explanation of how, when it comes to environmental improvement, every little does help. And if climate chaos is to be retarded, it is these little bits – which everyone can by taking thought achieve – that will make the difference. This is a thoroughly enjoyable, worthwhile read whose message is not only obvious but obviously irreproachable and – very important – easy to follow.
