Containing a mixture of sketched illustrations, combined on some spreads with actual photographs, this witty picture book has shades of Lauren Child and Tony Ross about it but certainly feels original. It is the story of a little girl and her old toy rabbit called Stanley, who is coveted by Queen Gloriana the Third. The Queen sends her chief footman followed by the heads of the armed services on separate missions to persuade Emily to part with her beloved bunny. When the Queen’s special commandos steal the rabbit, Emily has to spring into action to rescue him. There is lots of repetition for young children to enjoy as well. The book contains an interesting combination of standard text and speech bubbles.
