An unusual pop-up that goes down the tricky route of using photographs rather than artwork. Whether through careful choice of pictures or through skilful photo manipulation, the result is marvellously successful as colourful monarch butterflies burst from the page amidst a mass of orange blooms. A grasshopper leaps into the air, a ladybird takes flight and a dragonfly spreads its wings. On each spread a pull-out card gives information about the insect, its feeding habits, lifecycle, predators and habitat. A final spread encourages the reader to search for each animal amongst the foliage and vegetation. A simple idea brilliantly executed. Look out for a companion volume, On Safari .
