When Jack finds himself flat on his back in hospital after falling off his bike, he knows it won’t be long before the police track him down. To take his mind off things, he and fellow ward mate Liam come up with some crazy ideas to liven things up. But it’s not until Maisie arrives that Jack is able to reveal exactly what happened in the supermarket on the day of his accident.

This book is immediately accessible with the conversational style of the first person narrative drawing the reader in right from the very first line. The story is set in the ward of a children’s hospital, and Strong has turned a mundane day-to-day ward routine into an exciting and entertaining read. The details of hospital life are well observed and add a realistic edge to this amusing story, which is further brought to life by Clifford’s bold, comic style illustrations.
