The young giant Boobela and wise Worm continue their high-spirited adventures in this robust collection of stories in which they discover all sorts of information about themselves and the world. On a summer outing, Boobela learns about rock pools and fossils and Worm’s family tree. In a bet, Worm persuades her to change her eating habits, and shows how scraps of fruit and vegetables can be made into a top-class restaurant for worms. And when she accidentally falls down a volcano she puts into practice her Gran’s lessons on overcoming fear. The incongruity of the friendship makes for plenty of humour, and reassurance too, while the duo’s adventures gives rise to some interesting observations. The stories are punctuated by non-fiction spreads reinforcing key themes and providing further humour. Illustrations mixing photographs, drawings and collage of decorative fabrics cheerfully sweep across the pages adding movement and colour to these quirky and charming stories, perfect for bridging the gap between picture books and longer stories.
