This timeless classic tale of a brave, wilful and maverick boy who refuses to grow up, is given yet another outing. In this edition, the magic story is accompanied by the equally classic drawings of award winning, and much loved, illustrator Shirley Hughes. It’s a pity that the 30 or so, Hughes-hallmarked illustrations throughout the book are confined to monochrome, as a dash of swashbuckling colour would not have gone amiss. This is especially true as the book is a perfect bedtime read to be shared with younger children. Author J M Barrie was a huge supporter of Great Ormond Street Hospital and in 1929 he gave it all his rights in Peter Pan. Though no longer in copyright, the hospital continues to benefit from sales of the Hodder editions of this story.
