Just as I thought there would be no further Worst Witch books, a new one arrived. I opened it with pleasurable anticipation. Was I satisfied? Absolutely so! Mildred has for once excelled herself at the start of the story and done well on a holiday project by creating a new working spell. And her arch enemy Ethel is being kind too – so what could go wrong? Plenty, as readers will cheerfully guess – cue the scene for some pottery, an illicit tortoise and a talking toad among other things. Although the first book in this series was written over 30 years ago, the current book is as fresh and enjoyable as any of the other titles in the series.
