This is a brain-teasing fantasy/horror/adventure epic with a current issues undertone. It will definitely take someone with advanced reading skills and probably a humour by-pass to appreciate it.

It is peopled by characters who, though some are modern, are often present echoes of history and prophesy from time out of mind. There are ancestor and Beast Gods too, ‘of every nightmare daemon and deity to haunt mankind from lost time to the present day’. Both good and evil belief systems are in a battle for control whilst the world as we know it is rapidly unravelling – sound familiar?

The scholarship and research that has gone into this is impressive and immense. The descriptions are truly vivid and the tense atmosphere never relents. I’d like to meet any teen reader who sees it through to the rather understated ending.
