Shadows in the Bedroom
Illustrated by Leighton Noyes
Two simple science books that take a practical approach to the subject for the youngest readers. Bath time offers opportunities for learning about the properties of water, how objects float and why water swirls down the plughole. Bedtime and bedrooms afford plenty of fun with mirrors, torches and shadow play, plus a rummage in the toybox for magnetic toys. The activities are aimed at children at home but would be just as useful to teachers in the classroom. The emphasis is on fun and exploration but the scientific principles are clearly set out and explained in easily understood terms. Colourful artwork, a busy layout and a good sprinkling of fun facts and quiz questions all help to make the books accessible for a young age group. Look out for two further titles in the series: Fizz in the Kitchen and Bugs in the Garden.
