Here are two lyrical science books of enormous appeal to the age group which pack in a lot of information. The user friendly paper-folding mechanism is a splendid device to take young learners from the general picture to more specific detail. So in Just One Quiet Pine Tree the first double spread shows the tree in its entirety as you might come upon it during a country walk. Then a closer look shows the variety of creatures that live and feed in its different parts. Similarly, Just One Peaceful Pond begins with a picture of a whole pond, going on to a close examination of its inhabitants.

This series looking at living things in particular habitats will be supportive of key stage 1 science topics. Children will feel at home with the well annotated illustrations of the plants and creatures. Above all the books are likely to encourage children’s own observation, talk, drawing and writing.
