An enjoyable twist on the ‘I’ve lost my Mummy’ scenario, this book is told in verse, enabling young readers to join in and guess what’s coming next. It begins with two little legs hatching from a blue egg. The half hatched egg wants its Mother but each strange creature it approaches tells it not to waken the scary thing. But too late! The refrain, ‘Run for cover! Run for cover! Run little egg, and find your Mother!’ in larger, bold font, is just right for audience participation. More and more is revealed in the illustrations as Baby Blue Egg runs in search of Mother. Good opportunities abound for predicting the outcome by reading the picture clues. As the chase heightens, readers will be identifying the different dinosaur characters, and there’s a witty surprise on the final page.
