Ballet Kitty and her two friends, Pussycat and Ginger Tom, set off for their first real ballet class – the latter rather reluctantly and preferring to wear his trainers rather than his new ballet shoes. The two girls warn him that he’ll slip and trip and squeak but he doesn’t care.

Opinions are challenged, adapted and altered, by experience – Ginger Tom manages to dance with enjoyment despite his inappropriate footwear, while he finds that his enjoyment of dance will probably be enhanced if he wears the right shoes next time.

Simplicity of style is part of the charm of the soft pencil-line and wash illustrations in pastel colours. Standing out cleanly against a plain white background, they convey and complement the storyline. A simple and charmingly told narrative with characters clearly delineated through their colour coded dress sense!
