This book, which marries text, illustration and layout so well, will have no difficulty in exciting engagement and participation from readers. It is an ideal book for parents who want to get their littlies caring and knowing about what lurks in the flowerbeds throughout the year. Twenty likely garden creatures are covered with excellent visuals and a few nuggets of written information on each. Close observation is invited with the guessing game that features throughout. The text is approachable for young readers but it will work best in a parent/teacher-led reading session. A glossary, an index and a find out more section complete this highly commended production from the RSPB. I shall definitely be using it with all my grandchildren.
