Patrick, a small penguin, wakes up one morning to discover he has turned pink – all over. He is horrified: ‘Boys can’t be pink!’ Dad shows him pictures of pink flamingos and explains that some of them must be boys. But after being teased at school, Patrick decides to swim away and join the flamingos in Africa. Things don’t turn out quite as he planned; the flamingos are pink, but that is all he has in common with them. When he returns home, his friends want to hear about his adventures, and he has become something of a hero. He discovers (and so do we) that being different is not a disaster after all. Lots of chunky penguins and bright colours make this picture book fun.
