Elephant is a beautifully simple story about friendship which plays with the oft explored theme of imaginary friends. A little boy gets into trouble when his elephant causes problems around the house, such as splashing water in the bath and destroying the flowerbed. Luckily it is all resolved in the end. Horáèek’s beautifully composed illustrations come into their own when the elephant is involved. The endpapers, depicting an elephant duplicated across the page in 18 different poses, are simply divine.
