A photographic alphabet that celebrates the things that Poles love best about their country, from amber to Chopin, the Nagietki flower to the Vistula River. Food and home life feature strongly with borsch and poppyseed cake, smoked cheese and gingerbread biscuits, but the photographs also give a sense of the folk traditions that feature in the richly embroidered linen, colourful folk costumes, the Dragon of Krakow and Christmas markets. We catch a glimpse of forests, sand dunes on the Baltic shores, lakes and mountains as well as the beautiful city of Krakow. A short introduction by the Polish author helps set the pictures in context. A useful addition to the publisher’s series of photographic introductions to countries.
