Jago’s bright blue pet dragon is a couch potato! A programme of exercise is needed and Mum, Dad and the two children encourage Little Dragon to join them in football, badminton, swimming and archery. Little Dragon, however, wants to choose his own sport. Off he goes to an athletics club. He fails miserably in running, long jump, and shot put. In desperation, the trainer proposes the javelin. The javelin point sticks in the ground and sends Little Dragon sailing high through the air. Realising a potential here, the trainer then suggests the pole vault. Success! After much practice, Little Dragon becomes pole vault champion, to the delight of his family. Brightly illustrated in energetic cartoon style, this third title in the entertaining Dragon series should do much to encourage children (and adults) to persevere in finding a sport which suits them and teachers and coaches to have the skill and patience to bring out the best potential in us all. Olympics 2012, here we come!
