In this book intended to encourage us to care for the environment, Fuge matches his exuberant text with vivid, boldly brash illustrations, full of action and detail. The creatures love their forest home, and happily share its abundant fruits… until the terrible Fossifoo arrives. Devouring all the available food sources, the Fossifoo exerts a vigorous, destructive energy, devastating the forest. The animal population disappears. The Fossifoo’s frenetic behaviour is finely contrasted with his careful attention later in the story to nurturing regenerative growth. His change of attitude is handled with skilful storytelling and pictures. Gradually the land is returned to its original richness. This ecological cautionary tale in brilliant colours will have great appeal in schools and libraries.
