Football fans will be pleased to have another adventure in this series about a football mad family, all of whose children have names associated with the sport. In this story the family go on holiday to the seaside, with Bobby determined to be a pirate. Pirate style adventures follow (including some ice-cream that does not land on target), with Bobby and his sister Charlton being declared the heroes of the day... Will their love of football remain? Definitely. But what interest takes over from pirates? That would be telling and young readers will enjoy finding out. Smiley’s style is warm and true to life, and should gain her plenty of fans; details of other books in this series appear at the end of this title, and will also be well worth buying for the KS1 classroom.
