Once again Hadithi and Kennaway take us to the African plains in this pourquoi tale wherein we discover how vain, arrogant Handsome Hog is transformed from a sleek, smooth-faced creature to a lumpy, bumpy-faced Warthog.

First he evicts hard-working Porcupine from her home and then he insults Lion, Dog and Cheetah at the watering spot along the river. His cutting remarks prove too much and suddenly, Hog finds himself being pursued through bushes, thorns and swamp. He just makes it back to ‘his’ hole, now repossessed by Porcupine with the inevitable painful and humiliating consequences for our erstwhile, delinquent dandy.

Kennaway’s illustrations are as handsome as ever. Executed in pastel and watercolour, they reflect the grandeur of the earth, skies and waters of the African savannah, and use reflections to magnify the magnificence of the animals and landscapes alike.
