Well-known as the illustrator of picture books by writers such as Jeanne Willis, Bel Mooney, Margaret Mahy, and Kaye Umansky, Chamberlain has created a highly amusing book well-balanced between her own chatty text and her whacky pictures. It is purrrrfect for growing reading prediction and confidence. In bouncing, rhyming text, two young cats are bound for retail therapy, set to shop till they drop! And they do, relishing colourful, snazzy accessories and shoes with ribbons and bows. ‘Do they buy them? They do. Wouldn’t you?’ Next, it’s party dresses. We see fancy mirrors, twee twirly chairs in very pink dressing rooms, and dresses swishing with spots and stripes. ‘Do they buy them? They do. Wouldn’t you?’ Time for the ice-cream parlour, smart bags galore at their feet. Here the tale takes a twist. What they see from the window pulls at their heart strings, and the story ends with them giving away all their goodies to needy cats! ‘Well… wouldn’t you?’
