This is the first in what promises to be a series of ‘Kit Salter Adventures’. Kit is a Victorian young lady of very independent mind who, with four friends, takes on an East End gang of vicious thugs seeking an ultimate prize of a priceless ancient Egyptian artefact. The action swings exhilaratingly from Oxford to London to Egypt where Kit’s Egyptologist aunt and her French rival save the day in a suitably eccentric style.

Good and evil, fine intentions and ruthless greed are at the centre of the conflict delineated in a thrilling and engaging way, but there is also a glance at the morality of exploiting other people and their culture and of the plunder of artefacts to enhance the reputation of the Empire. And, closer to home, the constraints society put upon young women.

Beautiful presentation makes this an eye-catching proposition even before the book is opened!
