Three odd beings meet a fourth – a small boy, who seems (to them) the oddest of all. The Lostlet doesn’t know where he is and is hoping for something unknown; the Strangelet doesn’t know what he is, and dreams of he knows not what; the Oddlet wonders who he is and longs for something vague. Then along comes the boy, who really is lost and wants his home and his mum. The three creatures gather round to ask their philosophical questions, but it is in comforting the crying boy that they discover that love is what they have been looking for. In an ending reminiscent of Where the Wild Things Are, the boy and his three new friends find themselves home in time for tea. The three creatures are wonderfully drawn, cuddly and strange in a background of sand and blue cacti, and when the Oddlet becomes a Huglet, the Strangelet becomes a Snuglet, and the Lostlet becomes a Foundlet, one wants to cheer!
