This is the third novel in the Chloe and Zoe series and it finds the girls determined to strip flaws, flab and unsuitable men from their lives in time for the Jailhouse Rock concert which is being organised by the graphically named Beast, once the man of Chloe’s dreams but now the object of Zoe’s secret fantasies.

This is a laugh-out-loud book, with the girls lurching from one comic interlude to the next but somehow managing to weather all adversities. Characters are sometimes caricatures – the ludicrously feeble Matthew and the man-killer Charlie – but this adds to the sense of wackiness pervading the book.

Issues of interest to teenage girls are covered – weight, image, boyfriend problems – but the story focuses on entertainment, rather than enlightenment. It’s a fast and furious read which will royally entertain younger teenage readers and all those who have enjoyed Louise Rennison’s Georgia Nicholson stories.

Although this is ostensibly a stand-alone story, there were times when a knowledge of the others in the series would have enriched the narrative.
