Babies Don’t Bite
Hegley the horse is getting ready for his baby sister’s arrival. His friends, who are in a similar situation, are morose and generally negative about the idea of younger siblings.Hegley is fed information, such as the fact that babies bite, which he then races off to tell his mother. On the way home, he always stops to play with a baby animal. Each time he realises that his friends are wrong and returns to tell them the news. Eventually Hegley’s baby sister arrives and he and his friends realise that life is good with a baby sibling. The repetitive text fits well with story time with younger readers. The text also counts down from ten to one. The cartoon style illustrations nicely convey the emotion and action of the book. All in all, this story would certainly be a lovely gift for children expecting the arrival a new baby in the family.
