Who Lives Here?
This is a lively introduction to animals living in different environments: the rainforest, the river, the farmyard, the forest, the coral reef and the savannah. The flaps are cleverly designed; each shows an animal and then, when it is lifted, another creature common to the habitat is revealed. For example the cheery elephant gives way to a hippo in the river scene and a clam to a lobster on the coral reef. There is just the right amount of written text for the age group. Children will like joining in, saying the rhyming refrains which introduce them to some useful adverbs; for example the crocodile is ‘smiling hungrily’ and the owl ‘hooting quietly’. This life enhancing book will be enjoyed, not least because of the delightful range of expression on the faces of the animals. In short: simple, effective and stimulating.
