Two in the series for 9 to 13-year-olds which aims to describe 'what it was like to be a child in former times'. The Fifties presents a rounded picture of the time and traces interestingly the changes that took place in that decade. Out of five sections in The Sixties, only one is given over to News - The rest are on Fashion, Music, Heroes and Heroines, and the Media - which seems rather unbalanced (or perhaps it's just that we did begin to get out of balance then!).

There's nothing on life at home or in school (what about the spread of comprehensive schools?), nothing on jobs and precious little on domestic politics.

Both volumes are illustrated with good photographs which in themselves provide plenty of opportunities for discussion of the period.
